There are times when I'm speedrunning that I have to quit for a break. Usually either a) my eyes hurt or b) something really stupid screwed up a really nice run.

An example: http://www.suki-janai.com/movies/doh.avi

Any of you speedrunners out there have any other clips like this? I'm thinking about saving bits like this for a montage later on down the road, since... I get so many of them. Hope you got a laugh at my expense...

It's MS MPEG-4 compression. If you can't get a viewer for it I'll recompress into a divx avi.

I had a couple of Uprising Legendary runs that were screwed up because I was an idiot. I deleted all of them though, it was too many bad memories.

On Uprising Legendary, I only got hit by the sniper once, out of like 10 times, so he didn't bother me. That reminds me though, a few weeks ago, I was doing an Arbiter run, and I was just about to win, so I drop out of my banshee, and get hit in mid air by a fuel rod cannon. That wasn't nice, and it was on normal. Anyways, the run sucked.

Reminds me of all those MP superjumps, but this is campaign! I'm not exactly sure how a superjump works, but I think your brother pulled one off by accident. Laughing

On my library run, I had no deaths until the last portal, which is only 150 meters from the end (looks like 150 feet, but in Halo, what looks like a foot is more realistically a meter). I missed the grenade jump and died. I tried a second time and missed again. On the third time, I made it. Funny how I do so well until the end, and then I mess up. Sad I could say the same thing about my Jet Set Radio Future runs. (JSRF is my favorite speedrunning and high-scoring game.) Wink

It doesn't really bother me though, since I don't tape my runs.

Download VLC media player www.videolan.org/vlc/ . It plays pretty much any avi file so it works for the original video (yes on a mac).

And after a search on google and divx.com's forums, apparently microsoft hasn't released its MPEG-4 codec for mac at all, so it can't be played on mac.

Yes but VLC player uses its own codec so it doesn't matter that MPEG-4 hasn't been released for mac. If the link doesn't work just do a search on google. It can play any avi file.

Almost every time I try a speedrun, I get sidetracked and I start playing with a box or such.

WMV 7 format. You should be able to see that one, if you don't want to download that extra program.

[*OT*]

For the "test runs" post them on a small-vid hosting site (e.g. Putfile, Rapidshare). For a full storyline speedrun, use www.archive.org. It's over three hours, including all the corny cutscenes (JSRF, not Halo).

What I learned about speedruns from JSRF is to expect the unexpected. Things that no one ever thinks about, like grinding circuit backward, falling down pits, or propelling yourself off a "useless" spinning disc, actually help you. Same thing in Halo, shortcuts that avoid enemies and fighting, as well as bumping into the ceiling, are major timesavers. (Just ask spotcheck Smile) I love finding shortcuts.

Heh, nice. I found out that the superbounce on Metro CAN be done with a speedrun... and that you should definately not move too far forward when you're inside the scarab. I ruined a perfectly good run because I moved maybe half a foot forward inside the scarab. :P

http://www.suki-janai.com/movies/dontstandhere.avi

Yes... the Scarab ceased to exist after this. Level = impossible to finish, without going back to a previous checkpoint (... which would have been annoying, since I got one like 3 seconds after that video ended).

Speed running is simply getting through a level in one go from start to finish in the fastest time possible. Why is it important? It's not, really.. it's just fun for some of us. Very Happy
