owned. lawl. How much time does that knock off? Or perhaps I should say "would knock off', since there's no sword flying anymore. Sad

Yeah, even Spotchecks 1:57 could technically be improved upon. With the lunge that Goatrope is showing, about ~1:50 should be the optimal time, but actually GETTING that would be a pain in the butt. Especially since every time I tried lunging the way shown in the video, something bad always happened. :P

I'm looking at beating your High Charity time goat! (not by much though).

I think that lunge is faster than mine, but I don't think it could go that low Rolling Eyes that lunge means you have to run around to the tree, while the one I did puts you almost beside the tree.... (unless you can do that lunge AND get to the tree, then it may be possible) it's a pain in the ass trying to get 5 sword flies together.

I know the 1st lunge can be done better, its possible to fly past the brute and through the door without getting stopped, but only if the brutes run the right way.

Thank God for no Live Wink

Have we got a solution for those of us who have Live? I don't want to delete all my new maps, but I want to compete with people here. There's only a few levels that don't have sword flying.

we had planned on finally getting our Delta Halo Co-op Legendary run in today (well, this and watching our home team win the Canadian junior hockey championship) but this is what we did instead...

i told Raigns (p1) to take my ghost if i flipped it here, so he could be first into the temple
- notice the time stamp
worst part is we didn't even get a checkpoint here

I had this happen to me a while ago. At the cliff area in Halo (level) on Heroic, I killed the marine gunner in the warthog to make room, and the warthog slid a few feet and splattered MC. Sad because it looked like a great run up to that point. Sad

Anyway, I don't have Live, but that doesn't mean I'll try sword flying in a speed run. The mere fact that Bungie took it out of campaign discourages me from ever trying it again even if I can. Crying or Very sad Oh, well, back to Halo 1.

i thought i'd post this vid here as well, since it started out to be a speedrun screwup vid - but it evolved into something much better - it has screwups, outtakes, shortcuts that didn't make it into runs and some other Delta Halo weirdness - and a kick-ass soundtrack

EDIT: new vid host

I wonder if anyone else has any videos, they're fun to watch :)

In the meantime, here's a little mess up I had on Regret (accidentally named file Oracle):

http://useruploads.mythica.org/view.cgi?f=Oracle.MPG

Reason why I flew past him is because I was trying to board onto him while in mid air by pressing X but that obviously induces a sword cancel and well.. If I didn't press anything, just landed right near him, and took him out there, I would've saved 19 seconds and had a time of 11:00 on Normal. Instead I ended up having 11:19. And that was a day when I nailed every single one of my sword jumps (four in total). Oh well.

hehe. Nokyard, Scurty : I love it ^^ heh. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who has really bad things happen to them ^^

So here's my recent screw-up. End of Metro, superbounce (which I can get about 4/5 times now). I got a LOT of height on this one, and the end camera made me laugh out loud.

http://www.suki-janai.com/movies/metrodoh.avi

The audio is a bit off, but that's ok.

edit: add another death, this time due to some horribly bad luck with timing.

Thats alot of screw ups. I have a vid of my speedrun but there a few minor screwups and I ended up about 10 seconds short of of your run.

http://www.picapic.net/media/PJJ33C

It has no sound. Yes this is off topic but I didn't want to make a new topic. Also the vid lags at parts. Partly because of my Xbox. Partly because of WWM.

Yeah, I notice that now, but the way the camera moves at first it does look like the body flies out real fast, but it becomes quite obvious that you just disintegrated. Surprised

hahaha, definitely strange.
it happened again to me during the same string of maw attempts, but in a different place.
must be something with the way the map loaded, cuz its only ever happened to me those 2 times.
pretty sucky tho when its a nade that came outta nowhere Sad

I just discovered that that little glitch happens alot when you're doing O.O. After about 50 bodies or more, if one player falls and dies on impact, his body vaporizes. What happens in Spot's and insidious' clips are probably related to that somehow. perhaps when you're going fast and furious and the game is having problems keeping up with you....and then you nade jump. I dont know, that may be a possible explanation.

I wasn't speedrunning when I was doing this but I could see it happening in a speedrun.

Ever get a checkpoint less than a second before you die? Like, say, coming around the corner is a Flood with a Rocket Launcher and you see him, pull the trigger on your shotgun, but it decides to hit the checkpoint, lag, and not register that you pulled the trigger and you explode?

That happened to me earlier today. It took me about 5 respawn attempts to get lucky. I managed to barely dodge the rocket, hop over the flood and shoot him in the back.

Heroic on Two Betrayals.

that can happen quite often in speedruns - when it happens to me i actually do put the controlled down - that's my signal to take a 5 minute break

i've got a 45 minute vid of me doing exactly this in exactly the same spot - anyone want to watch.....didn't think so

EDIT - i'm actually writing this out of frustration Evil or Very Mad because in one of the runs i'm working on this happens almost every time - the hardest part of the run happens right on a checkpoint/loadpoint - you'll see what i mean when the run is posted

you know how sometimes u will die and it wont do a death animation,
or zoom out the camera and stuff, you will just instantly be at your checkpoint and playing again before your body hits the floor...
well that happens sometimes when u die... but thats alright.
what drives me nuts is when it will happen out of the blue.

what i mean is sometimes ill just be running along and i dont know what triggers this, but i will be reverted to a checkpoint.
i dont know exactly when it happens but it may be right before an enemy load point... or during a battle... i think both have happened, but i dont get it.
stuff like that has turned me off to speedrunning... and i got frustrated enuff to stop for a while and work on a different project.

hint hint* new vid coming out soon Very Happy

I got a checkpoint in the middle of a fall in Library earlier today.
Of course it WAS far enough to die, but luckily it was a duckable fall.

I also JUST noticed that the index is visible on the first floor. I thought it'd be somewhere safer than right in the open like that.

If you paid any sort of attention, you'd know the index has always been on the first floor, and you must got to the fourth floor to deactivate the energy shield around it.

Wow, the only time that happens to me is when I get a banhsee outside a level, and then I fall with it. Eventually you'll just die. If you mod for no fall damage, and bump yourself below a level, you'll fall for a while and then the game will give you a wierd camera angle and you'll revert to the last checkpoint. Kinda wierd the first time I saw it.
I wonder what he's coming out with....... Shocked

Well, this very embarassing death caused me to put it down:

http://useruploads.mythica.org/view.cgi?f=gravemind_end.MPG

It's obviously a regular death but what you don't know is that if I didn't shoot at all, I would've lived and had a time of 10:57 on Gravemind Normal. Instead, it wasted 10 seconds and I ended up tying the current record of 11:07 :/ That caused me to put the controller down for the night..

Stop beating my times! ^^

Actually... are you using the sword launch trick at the end to beat the time? If so, I'm gonna hurt you! Heh... not really. That's about the only way left to save time on that map :|

I'll show you where I'm go a bit faster in your run later on. Actually if you sword launch past the guy at the end, you can get to the door at then end and the cutscene won't activate until Cortana stops talking. It's on a timer :/ I do do that though just so I don't get killed or anything.

Scurty you should definitely use a better camera, but yeah, I don't have vid footage to upload (I guess that's one reason why you should, then...), but I can tell you that on Oracle, if you keep your allies with you ,stay out of their fights and carbine the flood from a distance. I can't tell you how many times an ally has melee'd me to death (When you think about it, their reaction time is amazingly slow. Usually the get hit by a flood once, crouch, I have enough time to swoop in and sword teh flood, and then the elite finally hits me).

If I had a better camera, you'd see about one run a day from me :) I have about another 8 lined up on tape already for Cody but he's been very busy lately so I don't want to bother him for awhile.

Anyway, that doesn't always happen for me. When it doesn't happen, I know the game is being nice and is going to let me finish the level relatively easily. Once they start meleeing me, I either turn the Xbox off or go play another level. If I keep playing Oracle, that's all they will do. It's really annoying because the elevator should be the easiest part with enemies in the level..
