In theory, Keyes can be improved. A nit-picker could critique Spot's runs, y'know, he shield-bumps up on his 2nd try, he messes up near the black wall where you get a checkpoint, and the frozen enemy killing is a little slow. But the shield-bump is the X-factor, and with how lucky that is, its gonna be a while, if ever, before someone takes another shot at it, even on easy.

but its possible to knock off like two minutes if someone did it first try?
do you really need to shoot it 90 times before attempting?
or was he just trying to position better

He shoots it to make the timer restart for the shield to come up again. And I'm guessign the reason why he constantly changes weapons is because he has a set mark to set up with his shotgun, not the plasma pistol. Really, that amount of time that can be shaved off is: 40 seconds, not two minutes. Remember, you're going to need the shotgun so you have to take into accoutn the time it takes to get that. Then assuming you just hopped right on and got bumped up.. 40 seconds right there. But in reality, I don't think anyone could time their jump perfectly to land right in the right spot, it's insane to think about.

If I remember correctly, this is the run that got us within seconds of Halo Under 2 (I think 2 seconds) and I can't imagine anyone improving it further, and I'm sure spot doesn't want anyone but himself to either :)

yea i know why he was shooting - to reset the shield so he could position himself.
but say u shoot the shield, jump on, position yourself correctly
before the first time it comes back, and bam, get up.
thats a considerable amount of time saved.

now i wasnt even considering doing keyes any better...
im hoping something revolutionary can be found in the library or halo.

and i updated the first post, i just did poa in 4:29... thats 16 seconds off the best heroic time, and i think i can get it to 4:25.

Yeah, I meant 40 seconds could be saved if you do what you just said.

And is this list for the best times for every level regardless of difficulty? Kind of lost there.

I was aiming for a 4:20ish for PoA on heroic, but you have it in your hands it seems. Concerning Guilty Spark, I can get it to 6 minutes no problem on Easy. Also concerning The Library, I got it down to 13:48 on Easy, with about 10 seconds of improvement, maybe more.

yea i said on easy... i guess i meant any difficulty.
not all of them are accurate. some are wishful thinking, and some are
current records.
slynk, how you doin on T&R?
i'd love to get some solid runs so we can see how close we can come to
the goal.

i think i'll be taking a break from legendary maw if theres an interest
in doing this 77 minute thinger Wink

edit* eeeep... ok. the library might need some attention.
not to discredit you in any way... id probly get 18 minutes on easy on my
first run thru. but if theres ANYTHING else possible... i'll try and find it.
hopefully you're nading thru doors and all that ish?

Do The Maw on Legendary, THEN come to this project Wink

As for me on T&R, I'm doing fine. I can take it sub 10 easily with my newest discoveries. I'll aim for about 9 minutes. On co-op, I imagine that time would be something like, 7:4X or something. That would include a shade launch to the last area, and much faster fighting.

As for this any difficulty thing, I think we should focus on Halo in 77 minutes on Easy, then do the same thing for all the other difficulties. This would be a good idea, because if all these tables are filled, we could send the full table to SDA and have it put up there.

But yeah, let's focus on Easy first. I'll give Halo a try on Easy and see what I can do with that level. I think around 11 minutes is reasonable.

EDIT to your edit: My Library time on Easy is 13:48, if you can improve that a lot further, go for it. I can improve it to 13:20ish if I wanted to, but again if you can go lower, more power to you.

well i'd hafta step into library for a bit... havent played that map since co-op with
my girlfriend (which is all about keeping her alive, lol), but before that... i dunno, a year maybe.

well... the reason i said any difficulty is because some of the current records are on harder difficulties.

my legendary run on AOTCR is in fact 6:32, dunno what cody was thinking.
spotcheck's keyes leg run is faster than his heroic time.
and lets not forget that its impossible to do POA on easy or normal faster than heroic or legendary, because of the initial tutorial.
and im not about to run two betrayals on easy...
i dont think i'd do it as fast for a few reasons, mostly cuz grenade hops are much less likely, and frankly i dont wanna
play the map 30 more times just to get the ghost thru the door on the first shot, among other tricks.
(and also... the plasma nade sometimes destroyed the ghost on easy... not good Sad )

if you can get T&R to 9 minutes, i'll praise you.
that would start bringing us very near the 78 minute mark.
then its time to shave what we can elsewhere.

Well, here's all what I'm doing in The Library:

- After you go through the first door, there's sometimes a popping flood there. Stand behind him and shoot him with the shotgun and jump. You get a pretty far boost.
- I use the popping Flood again to get in to the first door faster. It involves luck though. I shoot the popping flood behind the second one, so the first one flies to the door. You have to time it pretty good, so you make it on top of the door while it's opening.
- When you first have to go in those hallways underneath The Library, I found a little improvement in those areas. As soon as you're about to get out, turn to the left and jump up on that little platform thingy, then jump up and crouch, and you should be up there a little faster. There's always a grenade jump too if you can manage it.
- For the first blast door you have to grenade jump to, I throw a plasma at the roof, and it explodes a second before the door stops, which saves about a second if timed right.

For the rest of the run, it's using those popping floods whenever I can and simply just not stopping... ever, except at doors. If you wanna take on The Library, bear these things in mind Razz

As for T&R, my ultimate goal is around 9:30ish.

Why not just only count easy runs? Well in some cases heroic and legendary can be better because of nade jumps, but in general easy is better for speed running...

yea, but cuz of those few cases... any difficulty should be allowed.

slynk... good stuff in the library.
ill jump in that map right now and see what i can find.
i already knew of and do that jump out the tunnels every time.

I found something at the very end too. You can use those popping flood to get you up to the door faster. And often times there's a popping flood near the end (if you shoot one there), so you can shoot that one to get to the end faster. But that would involve some luck.

Also some doors you can jump on before they open completely by jumping from that brown platform.

Anyways, to update my Easy time for Guilty Spark, I just achieved a 6:02. My god, 3 seconds away from sub 6. I can lower it with an improved flood room strategy (that only works on Easy). Just have to be tricky with those grenades I suppose. I may improve upon my grenade hop up to the flood room slightly as well, but I dunno about that one.

If my flood room strategy pulls through, sub 6 will be a breeze.

just updated - 78:14 is what i have added up, but its still a rough estimate,
cuz some maps havent been done on easy.
i'll be doing halo on easy to see just how low it can go,
that way i'll have a much more accurate guess.
then all we'll need is a confirm on the library, 343GS, and T&R.
then we work from there in lowering what we have to.
ill update later today on my progress with halo.

I can lower my easy Library time to around 13:20, Guilty Spark is nearing sub 6, and T&R will definately take some work if I'm going to get 9:30. I await to see your Halo time on easy as well.

i fear we have a problem.
i just did a (sloppy 13 minute) run on halo easy.
with a few tweaks and improvements to some silly mistakes,
im guessing the best i can pull is 12 minutes.
thats a minute longer than i had originally hoped for, and used
as a calculation.
i dont know where we're going to get that minute back.
this is going to be a lot harder than i thought Confused

I think I can get Halo to around 11 minutes on Easy if I really try. I'll have to study "gwptorswjdawd"'s strategy over and over again to get it right, but I imagine I can do it.

i hope so.
its harder than it looks.
theres lots of distance to be traveled, so the only differences in speed
are gonna be fighting.
15+ minutes to 11 minutes is over 4 minutes improvement in just fighting.
let me know what you come up with.

I know this is a pointless thing to say, but I think it would be a lot easier to read if you put the times directly next to each of the map names, instead of hiding each time in a sentence.

what u dont like treasure hunts?
sheesh.
the reason i put them in sentences is cuz its the fastest way to include
a quick description with the times.
plus the thing that matters most is the overall time on bottom.

Treasure hunts RULE! Tehehe....

Anyways, so far I haven't found anything too extravagent. There's the widely known grenade jump at the beginning, and the fights will obviously be really fast. I have a strategy to take out the covies pretty fast. As soon as I enter the beginning area, I throw a frag to the grunts so they all die, then I take out the elite, piece of cake. After that, it's simply throwing grenades at the ground where the covies land off the dropships.

For the driving route, there's making the jump over the gap after you make the drop down, and then I'm planning a grenade hop up to the switch. Either that or slamming the warthog into the wall, so I myself can just fly up there in one go, although that's a hard trick to pull off.

For the ending areas, as I said, I'm trying to find out a good route, and I still need to study the current Halo run to figure out just how the hell to do things.

yea... uhm, the warthog jump after the drop is cake.
thats not really a trick, as ive made it every time.
but if u say so Very Happy

for the switch... surprisingly, ive made it up 4 times in a row now.
every time i got there, i made it up.
it cant possible have anything to do with playing greenthumb now,
but i used to have trouble with that, and now that im greenthumb i've nailed
it on every attempt.

playing some multi with my gf but ill upload a short vid of the hog jump and
the switch jump sometime around 3 in the morning EST. Very Happy

on Halo (the level) has anyone looked into skipping the big dropship battle and going directly to spawning the hog - i know we talked about it before but can't recall where we left off - if you weren't here back then, i'll make this short...

"i skipped the battle in the second area where you battle the waves dropships by running around the outside of the area and backtracking - when i got back to the battleground the hog was there and i didn't fire a shot"

to be a little more specific - i stuck to the wall to the left of the area - then jumped down into the valley you exit through, then backtracked to the hog and it was there waiting
this happened when i was testing this level a long time ago - i was trying to skip the battle and grenade jump to the light bridge area, then when cortana said something about the hog i turned around, ran back up the hill and there it was

nok, did you kill the covies from the first of the 5 dropships?
the first time i ran around the marines didnt even kill all of them.
the elite and a grunt were leftover, just wondering if they should be
alive or dead.
im thinking alive cuz if they die, the next dropship comes.

*EDIT* k well i got a checkpoint while standing above the cliff
left of the valley. from there... i dropped down into the valley
and the safest fall distance, with the help of a rock.
cortana never spoke up. ive been running around for quite
some time now... no hog or any dialogue Sad

What would be useful is avoiding those marines that talk to you, so no covenant dropship comes down in the first place.

yea, u can do that, easily.
no dropships come, and the marines take VERY long to kill all the covies
from the first one.
when they finally do, the music changes from the annoying high pitch
violin or whatever it is to a much more soothing hum.
anyways... nok said put it on hold for now.
slynk - im still coming in at just over 12 minutes.
if you have something in mind to bring it lower, without using nok's trick
(which may or may not be faster on easy anyway)
then do a run!

I'm gonna be doing a run on Easy, I just don't really know how to go about it yet. This map'll take some more studying, that's for sure. After, I'm not sure if I'll go and improve the Legendary record. We'll see.

i can get the music to change to the final dropship hum, but so far no hog - i'll keep trying - but you're right, on easy it would be quicker to just kill everything

EDIT-after hours of trying i'm thinking it's either:
1-a one time glitch - but i don't beleive such things exist, most glitches are repeatable
2-my marines finished off all the covies while i was away - highly unlikely
3-i somehow got past the first dropship trigger/load or just found a stray trigger

i'm thinking it's #3 so i'm not giving up on this yet - i haven't submitted any H1 runs yet so i might give this level my full attention (after i finish you-know-what) - i'm going to play with the loading zones first to see i can find any other ways to trip the game up (i like levels with open tops- just wish this one had a ghost)

EDIT does anyone have a map of this level - or know where i can find one

EDIT#2 does anyone know how to get out of the first part of the level in co-op ?

here ya go nok, i put some text on there so you can get your bearings
in case you were having any trouble.
i experimented with the level after flying around the map while viewing triggers,
trying to find the exact corners and edges... not much i could do to
get what u were talking about.
this picture is probly the best location i could use to
show as much of every trigger as possible, and their significant corners.
let us know if you find anything useful:

thats a sparkedit screenshot...
old mod tool that lets u fly around and view the bsp and objects.
its great for making changes in multiplayer, but unfortunately
it doesnt correctly save changes for single player...
i always wanted to remove all the trees, add rocks, build stuff...
or add vehicles so i could get around and explore.
but hey, there's the fly mod, and the halo pc devcam.

You sure you don't want to try to take Legendary now? :D

That one mishap really cost me time (20 seconds) and now I can't seem to get the shield bump to work at all.. revert ot save like 50 times, no luck. Guess I have ot take a break from that level, I'm really disappointed with my Heroic and Legendary times though.

Also, I really think you should try to do Legendary The Maw. In the elevator I foudn a very safe way to take out all the enemies without losing a bar of health.. the elite on the left, melee him from behind and then throw a grenade inbetween the two grunts on the far wall. The elite will jump out of the way of the grenade which gives you the time to kill him instead of him shooting at you. Then you mop up the grunts, easy.

And for the place with all the flood forms right after the cafeteria, kill like the first two flood, throw a grenade, then kill another, throw a grenade, then you rush in. I'm very consistant with it and you basically HAVE to wait, rushing in right away will just get you killed :/

Well, you have to make a living. I'll try one last time today to complete the Maw and if I'm successful, I'll upload it. Then you could eventually improve it if you like. I have midterms all of this week so I won't get to play Halo at all.. today will be my last day.

Almost same here. I sometimes have 1 midterm in the morning, then I get to go home. Or 1 midterm in the afternoon, then home again. Some days it's 2 midterms >_<;

Took my English one today. God, it got so boring after 5 pages of writing. But I am on my Halo break for the meantime anyways, so I don't expect to be playing much this week. Also considering I need to study for my Social tomorrow.

Kind of like insidi0us that while back, I too am working on a video. Not a Halo tricking video unfortunately (because none of my friends or myself have a capture card yet. When I possibly get one in the future, you can bet you'll see some Blood Gulch stuff Razz). It is however a Half-Life video. Something that's been in the works for about a year now, and it's finally coming to a close.

I'm positive it'll shock the world when it's out, or atleast the portion of the world who has played Half-Life. I know that sounds corny, but it will, trust me Razz

So yeah, I'm devoting myself to this project for awhile until I'm ready to come back and destroy some times. I'll post it here for you guys when it's done, don't worry Very Happy

And no, it isn't a speedrun. Spider-Waffle is doing that, and he's gonna beat the game in 35 minutes >_<;

Well, last night I tried to do a Keyes run on Legendary. I did hundreds of runs and have gotten decent at doing the shield bump the first time around(1 in ~20 tries). I even had a nearly perfect run. I do the bump insanely fast, quickly get to the blob room and clear all the frozen flood/covenant (very, very fast with some well placed nades), Trigger cutscene, get past the thrice cursed exit and only lose ~.5 sec to get the health pack, I get all the way to the last room and screw up the fight on the upper level with the covenant and die Embarassed . A flawless run destroyed in the eleventh hour, ah well. I hadn't timed it yet, but I am fairly certain it would have been close to scurty's time on normal.

I captured it (I was using gamecam with HPC) and may try to post it later. The only bad thing is no sound (only comes with registered version of gamecam). Any hints with recording sound with gamecam without registering or recording with a different method and attaching to the avi would be appreciated also.

I will continue to try running it, and I will probably post the other as an outtakes video. With how many times I have run this level I have some pretty good ones.

Did you try dropping down one level like I did in my Legendary run? It's very, very simple to do and a lot safer than spotcheck's way. You don't need ot fight the covenant on the top floor so just skip them.

Also, I don't know anything about GameCam Lite but I know that you DO need sound for a run to be legit, Halo PC or not. Might want to post on the tech forum, Daleks United always seems to have the answer to everything.

scurty,

IIRC, I was trying to drop to the lower level as shown in your vid, but got hit very quickly by a fuel rod gun shot. With no shields, the drop down is an instant killer. I will watch your run again to see

Thanks for the advice on the Tech forum, I will post there to see if I can get some sound. I am kinda glad I botched the run now. It would be all that much more disappointing to lose an awesome run to a technicality.

If you're getting smoked by those covenant, you can always throw a grenade to the right as soon as you get out of the door. The covenant will jump out of the way, and give you about a 2-3 second window for the drop. While I was doing my Easy Regular Run just now (Yes, I'm cheating on my break. So what? I need to rot my brain somewhat after just taking a boring Social exam ^_^), I noticed a possible better place to land. I did the drop to the second level in my little run, because I wasn't gonna take any chances with it (since it was perfect. My god, 6:10?). But there's that slanted platform Cody jumps up on in his T&R run that you could land on. I think it's solid though, so I'm not sure if you can slide off of it and not take damage.

Oh well, just my little two cents. Also for a totally useless speed-up, you can grenade hop up to the Keyes blob after you're done killing everything. That's what I did in my run anyways Razz

I actually had thought of the slanted platform slynki, but hitting something that small from that high, while being shot at by explosives with a chance to take damage and die at the end = no thnx for a speed run with such an iffy trick at the beginning. What ended up happening was I brain farted in that room and forgot where the overhang to land on was. That split second delay meant I got hammered by covenant and end up dieing and falling off the edge.

I really am not so disappointed now since it wouldn't have been accepted due to lack of sound. Fortunately, I think I have a solution for my future runs. I just need to work on my splicing skills.
